Airplane!

Airplane! was a nice comedic relief after watching movies like Citizen Kane and Gone with the Wind . It is a parody filled with witty one-liners and plays on words. The movie opens with Elaine, a flight attendant, breaking up with Ted before she goes on her flight. Ted hasn't flown since he was  pilot in the war; however, as he is walking away he decides he is going to win her back. He buys a ticket and goes on her flight. Throughout the flight, Ted tells the people he is sitting next to the story of how he met Elaine and their relationship. Then everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Everyone who ate the fish for dinner gets deathly ill, including the pilot, co-pilot, and navigator. All that is left to fly the plane is the blowup auto pilot- and Ted. Even though he hasn't flown in years, with the help of Elaine and those waiting for them at the airport, he is able to land the plane safely. To top it off, he also gets the girl.

This movie is filled with lots of one-liners that I had heard before but never knew where they were from. For example, when Ted says something like, "Surely you don't mean to have me fly this plane," the pilot answers, "I do, and don't call me Shirley." Or if someone were to say, "we have a problem in the cockpit," someone would answer, "what is it?" and the first person would respond with, "It's where the pilot and copilot sit and fly the plane but that's not important." Throughout the movie, there were a lot of prolonged jokes- jokes that would keep repeating themselves. However, the repetition never really got boring. All of the jokes made you feel more a part of the movie, like you were there with them. The movie had so many absurd scenes that you couldn't not laugh. So, if you're looking for a light and funny film, I would definitely suggest Airplane! !
